Summary

A deliciously commercial YA page-turner about the daughter of a con artist who is taken hostage in a bank heist。

Nora O'Malley is a lot of things。 A sister。 An ex。 A secret girlfriend。 Kind of crooked, but reformed。。。 somewhat。

Nora O'Malley's been a lot of girls。 As the daughter of a con-artist who targets criminal men, she grew up her mother's protege。 But when mom fell for the mark instead of conning him, Nora pulled the ultimate con: escape。

For five years she's been playing at normal。 But she needs to dust off the skills she ditched because she has three problems:

#1: her ex walked in on her with her girlfriend。 Even though they've all been inseparable for months, Wes didn't know about her and Iris。

#2: The morning after, they all have to meet to deposit the fundraiser money they raised together。 It's a nightmare that goes from awkward to deadly。

Because #3: right after they get in the bank, two guys start robbing it。

But they have no idea who they're really holding hostage。

The robbers are trouble。 Nora's something else entirely。

I can’t wait to watch the Netflix adaptation! This was a fast-paced, thrilling, emotional read。 The characters were great。 The pacing was (almost) perfect。 The descriptions were easy to visualize。 The flashbacks fit in perfectly with the story。 I was hooked the whole 360 pages。 A tiny lil nitpicky issue I had was I feel like I needed a backstory on why Iris is into becoming an arson investigator。 It seemed a little too convenient for her to have such a specific dream occupation。 But other than t I can’t wait to watch the Netflix adaptation! Listened as an audiobook and did not love the narrator。 Enjoyed the story and thought there were some interesting storytelling choices。 But was a bit over the top

Such an original book that deals beautifully with different kinds of abuse。 There is no specific timeline, the books goes back and forth between Nora being stuck in the bank with her new girlfriend Iris and her ex boyfriend Wes, and her past being five different girls and what she did to survive。 Nora goes through all kinds of abuse: her mother physiologically abuses her, she is a victim of domestic violence and she is raped… Well, the girl goes through a lot。 This thriller was so well thought b Such an original book that deals beautifully with different kinds of abuse。 There is no specific timeline, the books goes back and forth between Nora being stuck in the bank with her new girlfriend Iris and her ex boyfriend Wes, and her past being five different girls and what she did to survive。 Nora goes through all kinds of abuse: her mother physiologically abuses her, she is a victim of domestic violence and she is raped… Well, the girl goes through a lot。 This thriller was so well thought because while Nora is outsmarting the bank robber, she goes back to her past to understand which tools she learned with the girls are valuable now。 Iris is such a badass as well and her plotting with menstrual cramps is something I had never read a book about。 Nora and Wes and Iris have such a complex relation I was really lost at the beginning if Wes still loved Nora and why they hadn’t worked out but I am glad it all makes sense in the end, with Wes and Nora like siblings and Iris as her love interest。 I loved the pace of this book, all the plans that don’t work out and the ones that do and how you never know how it is going to end。 I can’t wait for the Netflix adaptation because the book felt visual to me, there are so many scenes I could image in my head。 My favourite scene was the last one in the prison and this book is totally worth it, deals with so many topics that are not talked about enough while being fun, sensitive and charismatic。 A lot of great lessons and Nora… the girl is fucking amazing because of her background and her decision to fight, she is a survivor who became a warrior。 And Iris, Wes and Lee become her shield 。。。more

I loved this book!!! I loved Wes, Iris, and Nora。 They are all survivors!! The way that Nora’s mind was amazing。 The way it went back and forth between the bank robbery and Noras past was a really effective way to keep it interesting。 plus the transcripts between the people was also a different way to keep it interesting。 The ending was perfect!!Read this book for the plot, the characters, and the amazing!!! writing!!

Oh。 My。 God。Where to begin。 I was completely captivated after the very first page of this book。 The general plot was so enticing。 Although it was almost like two stories were going on at once。 The story of Nora's childhood and the story of Nora utilizing all of the skills she learned as a con-artists protege to save two, of the three, people she loves, and several other innocent people that are being held hostage by bank robbers。 I loved that we got to learn about all the girls that Nora has bee Oh。 My。 God。Where to begin。 I was completely captivated after the very first page of this book。 The general plot was so enticing。 Although it was almost like two stories were going on at once。 The story of Nora's childhood and the story of Nora utilizing all of the skills she learned as a con-artists protege to save two, of the three, people she loves, and several other innocent people that are being held hostage by bank robbers。 I loved that we got to learn about all the girls that Nora has been while also seeing the young woman that she is now。Personally, I thought that the ending was really fitting for Nora's character。 The way she cold-heartedly threatened her mother and then just walked away was cruel but so deserved。 I loved Nora, even though she is by no means a "good person" (but who really is?) and she made some evil decisions, but I think they were justified。 She is just so intelligent and skilled in her art that it would be impossible for me not to admire her character。Basically, I think that this book is fantastic and it made me feel chills but in the best way possible through its entirety。 。。。more

3。5 starsDefinitely a "it's not you, it's me" book; this was compelling and well-written and yet just didn't do much for me。 I liked Nora and I loved Iris, and would have enjoyed seeing more of Wes in the present as opposed to mostly in flashbacks。 It was fascinating to see the pieces fall together for both the escape from the bank robbery and Nora's escape from her abusive stepfather in the flashbacks。 3。5 starsDefinitely a "it's not you, it's me" book; this was compelling and well-written and yet just didn't do much for me。 I liked Nora and I loved Iris, and would have enjoyed seeing more of Wes in the present as opposed to mostly in flashbacks。 It was fascinating to see the pieces fall together for both the escape from the bank robbery and Nora's escape from her abusive stepfather in the flashbacks。 。。。more

I loved this one so much。 At first, you think it's going to be about three teens (Nora, Wes, and Iris) who are caught up in a bank robbery while dealing with some relationship stuff (Nora and Wes used to date, and now Nora and Iris are dating, and they kept it a secret from Wes, and he found out by walking in on them making out。) But there is much, much more to Nora than we know。 I loved finding out about all of Nora's layers。 Also, I hate her mom。 I loved this one so much。 At first, you think it's going to be about three teens (Nora, Wes, and Iris) who are caught up in a bank robbery while dealing with some relationship stuff (Nora and Wes used to date, and now Nora and Iris are dating, and they kept it a secret from Wes, and he found out by walking in on them making out。) But there is much, much more to Nora than we know。 I loved finding out about all of Nora's layers。 Also, I hate her mom。 。。。more

I think this was more like 4。5 stars but I rounded up instead of down because I only have one complaint and it doesn't have any bearing on the rest of the book。 I didn't like the open-ended ending。 I really wanted it to have more of a complete feeling。 But everything was so much fun that it doesn't matter。Tess Sharpe may be a new favorite author。 I read her other book, Far From You, as a backlist title and wish that I had read it earlier。 She tosses a lot of balls in the air and manages not to d I think this was more like 4。5 stars but I rounded up instead of down because I only have one complaint and it doesn't have any bearing on the rest of the book。 I didn't like the open-ended ending。 I really wanted it to have more of a complete feeling。 But everything was so much fun that it doesn't matter。Tess Sharpe may be a new favorite author。 I read her other book, Far From You, as a backlist title and wish that I had read it earlier。 She tosses a lot of balls in the air and manages not to drop or forget about any of them, and in the case of this book in particular, she "disguises" some of her actual points behind a really solid thriller/mystery, so it's just compelling to read。 For me personally, this hit a cord about having been too many girls to have a solid grasp of self。 Obviously, it's not literal for me like it is for Nora in the book, but it can be hard sometimes to figure out who you are after major life changes, and it can be even more difficult to find the connection between the person you were before and the person you are after。 I just connected with that feeling that Nora has。 For most people, it's more just the recognition that you might be 38, but there is still a 16 year old girl and a 26 year old woman somewhere in your head, and sometimes they take control instead of the current version of you。Anyway, this was a lot of fun! 。。。more

This book was a bit trauma overload for me。 I thought the main character was likable, and the story was interesting, but it also just felt like the author was trying to pile on a lot of trauma in every character, and using it as a personality trait, rather than trying to create authentic normal characters。 To be clear, I think Nora and Lee’s trauma is believable and makes sense, but I’m not sure that adding in the traumatic elements of Wes and Iris made a lot of sense to move the plot forward。 T This book was a bit trauma overload for me。 I thought the main character was likable, and the story was interesting, but it also just felt like the author was trying to pile on a lot of trauma in every character, and using it as a personality trait, rather than trying to create authentic normal characters。 To be clear, I think Nora and Lee’s trauma is believable and makes sense, but I’m not sure that adding in the traumatic elements of Wes and Iris made a lot of sense to move the plot forward。 That said, it was a quick read, I thought the pace was good, and it had a strong voice。 Not a bad YA book, but also not my favorite。 Should make for a good film or tv series adaptation。 。。。more
